Most of us usually look up to online websites like OLX, Quikr, etc. whenever we want to sell our old vehicle or buy any second-hand vehicle. But we should remember that people using these sites are the new target for people who want to make quick money by fooling them and doing scams.
Welcome to MOTORBHAI, which is a one-stop trusted place for buying and selling second-hand two-wheelers at the best price. The times are tough right now, and we hope all our readers are safe at home from the virus. Online frauds have been rising steadily in major cities, and we thought of making our audience aware of it and how to be careful from them. Remember, that this online fraud can happen to both the buyer and seller. So, without further wasting any time, let us get started.
#1 If you are a buyer.
Whenever you are in search of a vehicle, just be sure to check the details carefully, the deals by the fake sellers are usually very attractive, and they would be quoting a really good price for a very less driven vehicle, which is not more than 2-3 years old, and this would obviously seem attractive to anyone. These people usually use expensive bikes like Royal Enfield, KTM, or any other expensive bikes.
Once you contact them on the given number, they will talk very politely with you and tell you all about the bike, send the pictures and even show you all the essential details of the bike, like RC, insurance, Registration details, among others. Which would make anyone satisfied with the deal, and the buyer would be at peace of mind back of his mind and believe in the scammer. But the reality is, all these documents are fake, and even the pictures of the vehicle are downloaded from somewhere else.
The twist in the story comes when they will ask you for the 50% payment and they will make a false story that they are in some different state so that they are not able to meet you, and they will tell you that they would “Transfer” the bike to your state if you make the 50% payment and in some cases, they will also ask for the Aadhar Card number of the buyer.
Well, you have to stop right there and look no further for that particular deal. As it is clearly a case of fraud and it is always recommended that you always check the vehicle physically before finalizing the deal and meet the seller. Never trust people like these who will tell you that they would, “transfer” the vehicle to you, and other than vehicles, it could be any other object which the other person is trying to sell. They would never transfer the object to you, and they do not even have the object and after your 50% payment to them, your number will be blocked by them. So, it is better to be aware of these scenarios in advance. Just do not make the payment for any object until and unless you do not inspect the object physically and meet the seller. It is also recommended by OLX and other websites that you should always meet the other party in a public area for further safety.
#2 If you are a seller.
If you are selling your vehicle or for instance, any other object, always tell the other person to transfer the amount directly to your bank account by telling him your bank account number or Paytm id, etc. If the buyer is a scammer, he will send you a QR code, and will ask you to scan it, and will tell you that he wants the account details, so that he can deposit the money to your account and will assure that rest of the amount will be received by you on delivery. But guys, the catch lies here, as the QR code which they send has the potential to rob away all the money in your bank account and transfer it into the other person’s account. So, this way you can be careful from being robbed away and do inform about these numbers to your nearest police station.
The same QR code scam can be done to a buyer, as he could be told that if you scan the particular QR code, that particular amount would be deducted from his/her account. But in reality he/she gets robbed away.
Key Points to note
- In both cases, the scammer will try to disguise himself as an Government officer and will tell you he is selling the bike at a lower rate as he is being posted to some another state so that there is a sense of trust factor in the other person.
- Always finalize the deal after checking the vehicle physically and riding it for knowing any mechanical problems in the bike.
- Do not make any payment if you are unsure of the buyer/seller.
So, with this we hope we have provided you with complete information on how you could save yourself from fraud/scams like these. Cases like these have been on rise lately and a lot of people have lost their hard-earned money due to this. Even the police are not able to track the scammers as after getting the amount, they completely disable the numbers. Hence, they are unable to trace them. Once you get to know about traps like these, do inform the police with their numbers.
